Birthday and a MAGNificent visit from friends!

It's been quite some time since we last posted, about a year to be exact.. Better late than never (a saying to live by), so alas we I will recount the latest, from May 08 to today, April 2009 and so on.
May is a beautiful month in Paris.. Not only Didou's birthday (hehee) but it's usually warm, pleasing and most Parisians seem happier to be out and about. So we decided to celebrate with a picnic by the Eiffel Tower Champs de Mars Park. I couldn't ask for a better evening. My dear friend Monique came to visit, and Scott her partner flew in from Canada for a whirlwind 48 hour adventure and most importantly... a marriage propsoal!! How wonderful and romantic, so take note all you men out there!
Paris is infamous for art and music in the streets, parks balconies metros everywhere.. As we watched the Tower turn on its million light bulbs (not so eco friendly mind you), we danced, drank wine, and listened to incredible flamenco guitar. Here are some pictures...

Do you Speak Wall Street English?

Alas, who could ask for a better job.... Thanks to Wall Street and the many broken English speakers of France, I speak worse!

Who could miss this overwhelming marketing tactic that posts thousands and thousands of ads around the metros and many billboards of Paris... So much that I couldn't miss the opportunity to 'get in on the fun'.

After a couple weeks I became a Wall Street English teacher. Aside from the overuse of my voicebox- having to motivate the shy students, or the nightmares of present perfect simple, I've enjoyed teaching... not to mention learning English grammar for the first time in my life. I've succeded in teaching at a centre 3 minutes from our appartment; therefore making it the easiest commute ever- so good that I still manage to be late for work. But above all it has helped my French learning, now I teach a refined combination of Franglish. It has been a pleasure. Take a peek.

Franco-American legend

This Saturday, April 12th, we went to see "Jo & Josephine Baker". This musical was about the romance between the promoter "Jo" and the famous African American singer and artist "Josephine Baker".

Josephine Baker was an icon during the 30's and 40's. Today, she is still considered, by the Parisians, to be one of the most loved American artists.

The Theatre Daunou (which is also a hotel), has a beautiful Art Deco interior and it is located in downtown Paris, next to the famous Opera Garnier. We got the perfect seats, right in the middle and 5 rows from the stage. The sound was perfect and the main character "Jo" made our night out of the ordinary.

Click here to see a little clip of this performance.

After the theatre, we dined at the Canadian Pub on le Quai de la Seine- here Ricardo tried his first Canadian caesar cocktail amidst the hockey gear pinned on the walls.

T'was a perfect night.

Best of Paris

Here is our collection of interesting pictures taken in Paris.

These are some shots of places, monuments, paintings and picturesque life styles from this incredible town.

Enjoy it!

Easter bunny puppy

Low and behold, Easter in our town of Levallois, a sweet city 5 minutes from Paris. We had a special visit from the Easter puppy, an American staphy who we stole from our neighbour for the day.

Here is a video of us and the puppy on Easter Monday.

Peregrino connections

In December 2007, Cindy and Oscar our peregrino friends of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela (the famous walk where we met), visited with us for a couple of days. What a pleasure to host our first visitors, and of course the sweety pie Tristan who enlightened the house- now almost 1 year old. Amongst the Parisian sights, risotto dinner accompanied by Brazilian music, we enjoyed most Cindy's Alsacian family reunion, devouring our first dinner Alsace style: sausage, sauerkraut and potatoes al grey poupon. It was fantastic to see the Herrero-Picard family, looking happy, healthy and growing. Can't wait for the next visit, perhaps soon in Spain.

Food eaten in France

Here are some yummy meals that we've eaten, some which are masterpieces and some barely edible.. what doesn't kill you makes you stronger; indeed.

Our friends visit Paris

We had the chance to show our good friends from the good ol days around town for the weekend. Sarah, my dear friend from Vancouver, and Gustavo, Ricardo's good friend from university. Among the many meals eaten, and a rainy bike tour of Paris, it was fantastic to have such great company just before Easter.
